Navia Privacy Policy
The short version: Navia keeps your mileage log on your iPhone. Your drives, routes, earnings and settings stay on the device, and are included in your iPhone's own backups, unless you subscribe to Navia Pro and turn on Cloud Backup, which keeps a copy in your Navia account. You don't need an account to use Navia. We don't sell your data, we don't use it for advertising, and we don't track you across other apps or websites.
This policy explains what information Navia ("we", "us") handles, where it's kept, who it's shared with, and the choices you have. Navia is operated by Devin Gamble. Questions: support@usenavia.com.
Information on your iPhone
Navia stores the following on your iPhone. Without Cloud Backup, none of it is sent to us.
| Information | Where it comes from | Why Navia uses it |
|---|---|---|
| Precise location, including in the background, while a drive or shift is being recorded | Your device, with your permission | To detect drives and record each drive's route, start and end points, times and distance |
| Motion activity (whether you're in a vehicle or on foot) | Your device, with your permission | To tell when a drive starts and stops, and to leave walking out of your miles. Used on your device only; not stored or uploaded. |
| Drives: routes, dates, times, distance, start and end addresses, category, business purpose, vehicle, notes, and whether a drive was recorded, entered by hand or estimated | Created by the app and edited by you | Your mileage log, reports and estimated deductions |
| Shifts: start and end times, miles, and the gig apps you tag them with | Created when you start and end a shift | Hours worked and per-app earnings |
| Earnings you enter, optionally split by app, and tolls and parking | You | Earnings after costs, per-hour and per-mile figures, and tax estimates |
| Vehicles and odometer readings, miles your gig apps reported, and the name you add to your tax report | You | Your tax report |
| Car costs: fuel type and price, fuel economy, maintenance, insurance, car payment, the car's value and model year | You, or a fuel-economy lookup you choose to run | What your driving really costs, for profit and per-hour figures |
| Weekly goal and notification preferences | You | Goal progress and the weekly summary, plan and goal check notifications, which are created on your iPhone |
| Tracking diagnostics: a log of how automatic tracking behaved (what started or ended a drive, motion readings, GPS accuracy), including rough locations | Created by the app | To find and fix tracking problems. Kept on your iPhone and capped in size; shared only if you choose to share it from Settings → About → Tracking Diagnostics |
| App settings, such as tracking preferences, work hours and theme | You | To remember your preferences |
| Odometer photos you take, with the reading and the time taken | Your camera, when you choose to take one | Proof of your mileage for an audit, included in your tax report and saved copies |
Navia reads odometer photos, earnings screenshots and Google Maps Timeline files on your iPhone. Screenshots and Timeline files aren't uploaded or kept; only the numbers or drives you confirm are saved. Odometer photos stay on your iPhone.
Information that leaves your iPhone
Even without an account, these are sent off your iPhone:
- Location for addresses and routes. To show street addresses for your drives and to estimate the route of a missed drive, Navia sends the start and end coordinates to Apple's map service. Apple's privacy policy applies.
- Crash reports and diagnostics, if Share Crash Reports is on: crash details, device model and iOS version, and a log of app events (for example "shift started" or "a save failed") with error codes. They never include your locations, addresses, notes, earnings, name or email, and aren't linked to you. You can turn them off in Settings → About → Share Crash Reports.
- Feature settings. To turn features on or off remotely, Navia fetches settings from Google Firebase Remote Config, sending a random Firebase installation ID and whether this copy of the app came from the App Store, TestFlight or Xcode. It isn't linked to you or your data.
- Fuel-economy lookups, only when you use Look Up Your Car in Car Costs: the year, make and model you pick are sent to fueleconomy.gov (U.S. Department of Energy) to get your car's rated fuel economy. Nothing else is sent.
- Support emails, only when you choose to contact us from the app: the email you write, plus the app version and build, iOS version, device model, whether automatic tracking is on, your location, Precise Location and Motion permissions, and your Navia Pro status. It never includes your locations, addresses, notes, earnings or account details. You can read and edit all of it before sending.
If you subscribe to Navia Pro, sign in, or use Cloud Backup
Signing in is optional. It's needed only for Cloud Backup, or to restore a backup on a new phone. Navia Pro can be bought without signing in.
| Information | When | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Name, email address and account identifier, from Sign in with Apple or Google | When you sign in | To create and identify your account. Apple may give us a private relay email address instead of your real one. |
| A copy of the information on your iPhone listed above (except motion activity, settings, tracking diagnostics and odometer photos) | While you subscribe and Cloud Backup is on | To back it up, restore it on a new phone, and keep your iPhones in sync |
| Subscription status and purchase history: the App Store transaction ID, product, renewal or expiration date, whether it was a test purchase, and a random purchase ID (your account identifier once you sign in) | When you subscribe, renew, restore or cancel | To turn Navia Pro and Cloud Backup on and off. Apple handles payment, and RevenueCat processes the subscription for us; we never receive your card or payment details. |
How location is used
Navia records location only while automatic drive tracking is on (or you're on a shift) and you've granted location permission. When it isn't recording, Navia uses low-power location signals to notice when a new drive might be starting. It stores a route only for a drive or shift, not a continuous history of where you go. You can limit recording to your work hours, turn off automatic tracking in Navia's Settings, or change location access at any time in iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Location Services.
How your information is shared
We don't sell or rent your personal information, and we don't share it for advertising. We share it only with the service providers the app needs:
- Apple: map addresses and routes, Sign in with Apple, and App Store payments. See Apple's Privacy Policy.
- Google Firebase (Google LLC): sign-in, and storage of your Cloud Backup if you subscribe. See Firebase Privacy and Security.
- Firebase Crashlytics (Google LLC): crash reports and diagnostics, if Share Crash Reports is on.
- Firebase Remote Config (Google LLC): feature settings, as described above.
- RevenueCat (RevenueCat, Inc.): processes Navia Pro subscriptions. See RevenueCat's Privacy Policy.
- fueleconomy.gov (U.S. Department of Energy): fuel-economy lookups you choose to run.
- Google Sign-In, if you choose to sign in with Google. See Google's Privacy Policy.
We may also disclose information if the law requires it, or to protect the rights and safety of our users or others.
Storage and security
On your iPhone, Navia's data is protected by your device's passcode and encryption, and is included in your iCloud or computer backups of the iPhone. Cloud Backup data is stored with Google Firebase, including on servers in the United States. It's encrypted in transit and at rest, and access rules ensure that only your signed-in account can read or change it. No method of storage or transmission is completely secure, but we take reasonable steps to protect your information.
How long we keep it
- On your iPhone: until you delete it, erase it (Settings → Account → Erase All Data), or delete the app.
- Cloud Backup: while you subscribe. If your subscription ends, your data stays on your iPhone, backups stop, and the cloud copy is deleted 90 days after the subscription ended. Subscribing again within 90 days keeps it. We'll remind you in the app before it's deleted.
- Your account: until you delete it.
Your choices and rights
- Save a copy: Settings → Account → Save a Copy exports your drives, earnings and shifts as CSV files. Taxes → Export Tax Report creates a tax report (PDF and CSV).
- Import: bring a saved copy, or a Google Maps Timeline export, back into Navia from Settings → Account.
- Correct: edit or delete any drive, shift or earnings entry at any time.
- Erase: Settings → Account → Erase All Data removes everything from your iPhone.
- Notifications: turn any of Navia's notifications off in Settings → Notifications, or all of them in iOS Settings.
- Delete your account: Settings → Account → Delete Account permanently deletes your account, its Cloud Backup and your sign-in, and if you use Sign in with Apple, revokes Navia's access to your Apple ID. You choose whether to also erase the data on your iPhone. This happens right away and can't be undone. If you can't use the app, email support@usenavia.com from the address on your account.
- Cancel Navia Pro: in your Apple ID's subscription settings, or Settings → Navia Pro → Manage Subscription.
- Odometer photos: view or delete any photo from the vehicle or shift it belongs to.
- Permissions: revoke location, motion or camera access in iOS Settings at any time. Navia keeps working for manual entries, but won't detect drives automatically without location.
Depending on where you live, for example in California, you may have additional rights to know about, access, correct or delete your personal information, and not to be discriminated against for using them. You can use the tools above or contact us to exercise these rights. We don't sell or "share" personal information as those terms are defined under California law.
Children
Navia is intended for adult drivers and isn't directed to children under 13 (or the equivalent minimum age where you live). We don't knowingly collect information from children. If you believe a child has created an account, contact us and we'll delete it.
Tax information disclaimer
Mileage, deduction and tax figures in Navia are estimates based on IRS standard mileage rates, provided for your convenience. They aren't tax advice.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we'll update the effective date above. If a change materially affects how we use your information, we'll tell you in the app before it takes effect.
